Logistics & delivery services
  • Key players: UPS, DHL, FedEx.
  • Global market value for logistics has surpassed $4 tn, which constitutes ca. 10% of the global GDP. Transportation is the quickest growing logistics sector.[1]
  • UPS claims to be the largest package delivery company in the world, in terms of both revenue and volume.[2]
  • The logistics & delivery services category, and in particular its B2C part, are being disrupted by constant growth of e-commerce, an increasing role of retail players (e.g. Amazon introducing 1hr delivery service in selected cities) and new technology (e.g. drones).
  • Key challenges affecting the category include shortage of drivers and increasing Christmas volume trading. The key opportunities, on the other hand, involve value-added services like picking & packing, labelling, basic product assembly and returns management.[3]
  • Communication themes typical for the category: innovation, performance (efficiency, excellence, timeliness), global character and involvement in CSR activities.
